Eight Bucks Experiment came out of Colorado in the spring of 1995. No grand ambitions. No master plan. By their own account, bored, restless, or just stupid. Maybe all three.

Evan O, the band’s vocalist, had a clear reason for being there. Punk rock had lost its teeth. By the mid-nineties it had moved out of the dirty clubs and basements and found its way to the mall. Pop punk and ska were a radio dial away. Originality, guts, and volume had been swallowed by a wave of bands chasing the next big thing. Eight Bucks Experiment was a response to all of that.

Guitarist Paige O’Meara saw it differently. “The main reason why I play in this band is for fun. I do it for the love of music, and to be able to express myself artistically. I have zero artistic abilities outside of music, so this is it for me.”

Two different reasons. One band. It worked.

The lineup:

  • Paige O’Meara — Guitar
  • Bullet Bob — Drums
  • Alfred PO — 6th man drums/bass
  • Evan O — Vocals
  • Audrey — Bass

They toured hard, lived harder, and played like they had nothing to lose, because most of the time, they didn’t.
